Commonly known as CHD, Congenital Heart Disease is a term used for a range of heart defects that are present at birth and affects the normal functioning of the heart. It is the most common birth defect and millions of children are born with it all over the world. In India, around 1.6 lakh babies are born with CHD, every year. 78,000 die.
THERE IS NO KNOWN CURE. THERE IS NO KNOWN PREVENTION.
Most babies born with CHD don’t even get to see their first birthday. While many families don’t even know that their children have this disease, those who do find out in time, are unable to afford the treatment necessary for their survival.
With timely medical intervention and funding, many will live.
