Listen To Your Heart

If you notice two or more of these common symptoms, there is a huge probability that an ailing heart needs urgent help. Look out for:

  • 01

    Heart Murmur

The first indication of CHD is a heart murmur. It is an extra heartbeat over and above the regular beat, which can be identified easily. It might mean nothing really, but it is best to have a doctor check it out.

  • 02

    Breathing Difficulties

Defective valves, faulty connections between major arteries or blockages in the heart can cause blood to build up in the lungs, leading to lung congestion. This can cause severe breathing problems.

  • 03

    Excessive Sweating

CHD can cause extra blood to flow through the lungs, making it hard to breathe. The baby ends up exerting too much even during common activities like feeding, causing excessive sweating.

    Blue Skin (Cyanosis)

The heart is responsible for transporting oxygen to the organs. Due to CHD, the child receives less oxygen through the blood, giving the skin a blue tinge. Look out for blue lips, nails and tongue.

    Inadequate Development

Due to lack of oxygen in the bloodstream, the organs do not thrive. This affects developmental milestones, loss of weight or no weight gain. The child might be constantly tired and not eat enough as even that is exhausting. It is often mistaken as poor appetite.
